Of cluster design, set to the centre with a cushion-shaped sapphire weighing 6.00 carats within a surround of circular-cut diamonds, size M.
Provenance
By repute this ring belonged to Mary Tighe, who in 1805 wrote the six-canto allegorical poem Psyche. Thomas Moore was one of her admirers and John Keats paid tribute to her in his poem To Some Ladies. Thence by descent.
Condition
Accompanied by SSEF report no 91615, dated 13th April 2017, stating that the 6.00 carat sapphire is of Kashmir origin, with no indications of heat treatment, and report no. 13753 from the Gem & Pearl Laboratory, stating that the sapphire is of Kashmir origin, with no indications of heat treatment.
Sapphire mid blue in colour, strong saturation, transparent, with minor typical inclusions visible under magnification, minor chips to some facet edges and light scratches to stone surfaces consistent with age and wear. Diamonds bright and lively, estimated colour I-J on average, estimated clarity SI - I on average, estimated total diamond weight approximately 1.40 - 1.80 carats. Light scratches to metal surfaces consistent with wear. In good condition.
