註：溥、吳二人直接往來僅見載於〈安持精舍人物瑣憶〉，當為溥氏四十年代中後期南下滬杭之時。此前縱未謀面，卻有冒鶴亭、張大千等共同友好往來其間，二人書畫、詩詞作品皆登載於友人創辦〈詞學季刊〉等雜誌。三九年吳湖帆廣徵圖詠「綠遍池塘草」以悼亡妻，心畬亦精繪以應。兩人識見既高於同儕，彼此藝事遙相欽慕，不失相忘於江湖之古意，故四十年代相晤時，如陳巨來所言，滿桌藝界高朋，心畬「衹對湖帆及余二人娓娓清談不已」。

本幅上聯乃葉夢得〈應天上·自潁上縣欲還吳作〉句，吳湖帆曾以此句治閒章，聯中惟改末字「澄綠」為「晴色」。
