註：馮超然書作已不多見，篆書更如鳳毛麟角，此聯寫贈吳湖帆，二人滬上望衡對宇而居，昕夕縱談畫事，意尤相得。一九三○年馮氏有另對篆書聯贈吳，長跋云：「湖颿道長篆法承家學，近年益見疏宕，一洗時習，所謂絢爛歸於平澹者也。余不能書，惟湖颿好之，屢屬余篆……」，可見對藝友篆書別有鍾愛。
