註：言子，即言偃，孔門弟子也。其墓葬虞山，始建於西漢，經歷代修繕，乃當地歷史名迹，慕名而遊者眾。畫中所記乃鄭午昌經友招邀往遊，同謁言子墓。畫家以構圖奇絶稱勝，惟既出諸紀遊，圖中一景一物，大抵依循親歷所見，若對照他小字親書自撰之謁言墓記，如過橋、登石磴、越牌坊、謁墓、以至沿山上攀，臨最高處「辛峰亭」，俯瞰城景，所述之景貌細節，堪與筆下所狀相對照，此亦其紀遊之作的特點，雖非常現筆下，若考他翌年遊姑蘇靈岩，另有畫作紀之，無論構圖取法、筆墨、以至畫幅尺寸，與本幅足堪相埒。

畫上自題「略師大痴法」，寫山體輪廓略見子久大概外，餘者如點景、設色、以至用筆精細處，皆畫家自我風格流露，無依傍前人門徑。畫中起首處，房舍相連，牆瓦交接，正是城中景貌，其偏據畫面下方一角，益顯虞山之高崇，頗見宋畫構圖之取勢。整幅佈局，虛實呼應，主次分明， 極見經營用心。
