Overall very good condition. The enameled surfaces with some minor irregularities throughout inherent in the making, not visually detractive. The plate has been recently sensitively restored by a professional conservator specializing in enamel wares to select areas where enamel was lost on the vines (which are possibly pea pods) and on the underside of the plate. The underside of the plate with three dark spots which are not losses or damage but are rather inherent in the production process. The plate is presented in a highly naturalistic manner, with a charming, slightly irregular circumference and textural surface to the copper that shows the hand of the artist. The enamel is rich and lustrous, displaying an array of vivid green tones. Isolated areas of the design were enameled over gold leaf, imparting the vines with a strong luminous quality and sense of pictorial depth. An exquisite work by Tiffany displaying the studio’s unusual combination of enamel and patinated copper.
