Catalogue Note
In 1949, our American collector marries a French diplomat and settles in France. She often travels and becomes acquainted with the Parisian arts community. Close to Le Corbusier, she meets Diego Giacometti in circa 1980. A spell is cast and several pieces are commissioned to the artist. "Originally Diego placed a small mouse, it scared me and when I told him I could not sit on it, we both laughed. He kindly told me to return to the workshop the following week. He replaced it with a harpy or a chimera, which he called "Chipie" or litte vixen”.
