Condition
This work is in good condition overall. The cardboard is bowing slightly. There is evidence of some minor wear to the edges. The uneven paint application visible is consistent with the artist’s working method. Under very close inspection, there are a few scattered surface accretions throughout. Under Ultraviolet light inspection there is no evidence of restoration. Framed.

Catalogue Note
"Fixating on the quotidian subject matter, many mistake York's paintings for pretty intimist landscapes and still lifes instead of the mute, feral innovations they are. York is questioning, via a chunky, oneiric 'realism' (I can think of no more accurate a word), properties of paint, color, and fracture as much as, say, Brice Marden is; his compressions are intense temporal and art-historical negotiations similar to Joseph Cornell's, who is also often made quaint rather than daring."
Bruce Hainley, "Review - Albert York," Arforum, Summer 1998
