Provenance

Anonymous sale, London, Christie’s South Kensington, 19 February 2008, lot 162 (as English School, 17th century).

Condition

The canvas has a firm relining, the paint surface is stable and the varnish is clear and even. There is evidence of wear throughout. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals a thick, milky varnish underneath which some retouchings are visible scattered throughout the figure's skin and in the cuff of her sleeve. In overall fair condition.
