the divided fall-front opening to reveal a leather writing surface, the left side fitted with a writing slope, the right side ratcheted and with apertures to the mahogany top for fixing a reading stand, above two short drawers, above three adjustable shelves, the reverse with two dummy cupboard doors, with brass carrying handles to the sides

Condition

Generally in reasonable condition and with evidence of restorations consistent with age and use. Surface throughout with old marks and scratches, notably to the top, and the colour is generally faded. There are loses and repairs to the boxwood stringing and banding. The leather writing surface is later. Two loppers lacking brass knobs. The fitted interior to the right hand draw is missing its slope for pens. There is a pronounced age crack to the reverse and the sides have minor age cracks. Two narrow sections of rosewood veneer have been replaced to the reverse and there are other minor restorations and replacements to veneers. A smart and functional piece that would benefit from further restoration.
