Catalogue Note
This interesting cupboard shares the same language of a Zeelandish 'Onderkast', or lower cupboard, from around 1620/30 in the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam (inv. no. N.M. 2543) and illustrated in R. Baarsen, Nederlandse Meubelen 1600-1800, Amsterdam, 1993, pp. 14-15, cat. 4. As noted by Baarsen (op. cit., p. 14), similar designs are found in Paul Vredeman de Vries' furniture designs published in Amsterdam in 1630.
