Description
- Highland Mary
- white marble, on a painted wood base
- Italian or British, 19th century
Condition
There appears to be weathering to the surface of the marble throughout, consistent with placement outdoors. The surface has subsequently been cleaned and some areas possibly re-polished, such as the proper left arm. Otherwise, the condition is good, with minor dirt and wear consistent with age. There is some slight veining consistent with the material, including below the proper right breast and to the back, as well as to the dog's proper left hind leg. There are a few very small naturally occurring inclusions. There appears to be a small restoration to a fold of drapery at the woman's front. Joints are visible, with some filling material, around the dog's collar chain and above his front paws. There is a loss to the bottom of the terrasse at the back. There are a few minor chips to some of the high points including her drapery at the proper right elbow, and her hair on the proper right side.
The core material of the marbleised base is exposed around the bottom, where a section appears to be lost. Otherwise, the base is in good condition with minor general wear.
