Description
- Marble, gilt-bronze
- 43cm. high; 1ft. 5in.
each with bulbous marble body richly mounted with a pierced and cast cover, with scrolling acanthus and foliage throughout, on a pierced acanthus and rocaille-cast base; dated 1891

Condition
A fine pair of vases in good original condition. The marble presents minor scratches consistent with age; the gilt-bronzes, finely chased, with some light occasional tarnishing, would benefit from a light cleaning according to taste. Secure movement to both finials.

Catalogue Note
This model was received with great acclaim at the Paris 1889 Exposition Universelle when displayed on top of the bombé commode centered by a vernis-Martin panel allegorical of one of the four continents, Africa (see Sotheby's New York, 19th Century Furniture and Decorative Arts, 15 October 2015, lot 42 for the commode).
