Catalogue Note
Yvette Guilbert (1865 - 1944), fameuse chanteuse de café-concert, actrice, auteur et metteur en scène remarquée dès 1885 par Charles Zidler (illustre créateur du Moulin Rouge) fut fréquemment représentée par les artistes. Outre Marcel Proust qui lui consacra son premier article dans le Mensuel, de nombreux peintres exécutèrent son portrait, principalement Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec. En 1895, Joseph Granié peint un buste la représentant de trois quarts sur fond doré, conservé au Musée d'Orsay, Paris.
Nous pensons qu'il s'agit d'Yvette Guilbert car elle est reconnaissable à ses yeux étirés, à son nez et à son port de tête très particulier. Elle se tient face à nous dans une tenue très simple, sur un fond sombre, supprimant toute temporalité. C'est l'expression du visage, et la longueur du cou orné d'un collier d'or qui retiennent l'attention.
