Catalogue Note

Little is known of Robert Swan's apprenticeship and early life. He is listed at 77 South Second Street in Philadelphia from 1799 until 1831. His work, especially holloware, is comparatively rare. A similar galleried sugar urn with beaded borders and urn finial is in the collection of the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
