Condition
This fragment of tapestry is not lined. It has a partial linen strip across the top edge with hoops attached. We would recommend that it should be relined and it would need fastenings or Velcro attached across the top for hanging purposes in the future. Tapestry has been reduced in height and width and has later machine woven blue selvedges as visible on the photograph. There are scattered small areas of reweaving and repair including terracotta coloured outlines to profile of faces and hand of male figures in centre right of composition, including brown repair to hat of one of these male figures as visible centre right. Some minor areas of weakness along areas of colour change and including a small horizontal split in the face of the far right corner. This tapestry has balanced colour overall and, despite being a fragment, has balanced composition. Striking early tapestry of versatile size.
