Condition
Good condition overall for both group with minor wear to the patina and surface dirt in the crevices consistent with age and handling. Minor chips to the edges of the marble bases consistent with age and handling.

Catalogue Note
Ces deux modèles d'enlèvements ont été conçus indépendemment puis associés pour former pendants. S'il est vrai que l'Enlèvement de Déjanire par Nessus s'inspire d'une composition de Giambologna les auteurs de ces deux modèles demeurent inconnus. Les premières versions en bronze sont attestées en France à partir des années 1690 et on en trouve mention, vers 1700, dans l'inventaire de la collection d'André Le Nôtre. Deux paires des mêmes modèles, fontes de la fin du XVIIe siècle, sont répertoriées dans des collections publiques, l'une à Dresde achetée à Paris par l'Electeur de Saxe en 1699, l'autre à Stockholm (château de Drottingham) acquise par le comte Carl Gustave Tessin en 1740.
