  • jade
carved to both sides with the 'grain' pattern, the stone of a pale celadon colour with russet-brown patches

Condition

As visible in the catalogue photo, there are tiny nicks and pitting along the outer edge of the disc. The catalogue illustration is warmer than the actual colour of the stone.

Catalogue Note

With a rather small size, it likely is a jade disk hung at the waist. Its outer edge is suffused with a brownish-black colour, compare a related jade bi excavated from the No. 16 Chu era tomb at Pingliangtai, Huaiyang, Henan, illustrated in Wenwu, vol. 10, 1984, pl. 18:1, and in colour in Gu Fang, The Complete Collection of Jades Unearthed in China, vol. 5, Beijing, 2005, p. 206.
