Description

  • Silver
comprising: one oval, chased with leaves and rocaille, 29cm., 11 5/8 in. long; and four circular, in two sizes, oaks shell embellished gadrooned rims, 26.7cm., 10 1/2 in. and 21.5cm., 8 1/2 in. long; with later applied cast silver-gilt Marquess' coronet finials, the bodies applied with two coats-of-arms accolĂ©, all Mortimer & Hunt, London, 1841, various impressed pattern numbers and engraved scratchweights

Literature

The arms are those of Westminster quartering Grosvenor accolé with those of Westminster quartering Grosvenor with Egerton quartering Grey in pretence for Robert Grosvenor, 1st Marquess of Westminster, (1767-1845) and his wife Eleanor (d.1846), only daughter of Thomas Egerton, 1st Earl of Wilton, who he married in 1794.

Condition

The Garrard's cover apparently only part marked, the later finials and coats of arms fully marked. Mortimer & Hunt example fully and clearly marked. Excellent gauge. Condition good.
