Catalogue Note
The arms are those of Leslie, probably for Leslie of Glasslough, Co. Monaghan.
A similar model was used by Paul Storr for Storr & Mortimer during the 1820s. A comparable pair by this maker of 1825, the base decorated with wild dogs rather than lions, was sold Sotheby's New York, 16 April 1996. For another, three-light pair of 1823, with griffin embellished bases, see J.B Hawkins, The Al Tajir Collection of Silver and Gold, Vol. I, London, 1983, pp.162-163.
