Condition

The colours are fairly accurate in the catalogue illustration although the overall tonality is less contrasted and tends more towards grey than blue in the original work. The work was inspected framed. The edges are deckled and the sheet is slightly ondulated, inherent to the technique. This work is in very good condition.

Catalogue Note

The Merkaba is the divine throne described in the first chapter of the Book of Ezekiel. This throne is placed at the top of seven celestial palaces and can only be accessed by an ascetic after an initiatory course during which he must descend to the deepest part of himself. A recurring theme in the work of Anselm Kiefer, the Merkaba also thus refers to the knowledge of the world’s mysteries which allow for an understanding of both the macrocosm and the microcosm.
