Catalogue Note

In 1932, the Rockefeller family selected Zorach’s Spirit of the Dance to adorn Radio City Music Hall, which opened its doors the same year. Because of its nudity, the original aluminum cast, 6 feet 6 inches in height, caused controversy when it first appeared and was removed for several months. But, finally, it was reinstalled in the Grand Lounge on the lower level, where it still can be seen today.
