Condition
The panel is flat, even, and ensuring a stable support. The artist has painted a study of a nude on the reverse of this panel. Ultra-violet light reveals some small spots of retouching in the background to the right of the plinth, in the centre of the upper edge and in the folding screen in the right. These have somewhat discoloured in time and are visible to the naked eye upon close inspection. Some areas of strengthening are visible in the black gown and there are some small scattered spots of retouching in the lower right quadrant. Otherwise, this work presents well and is ready to hang.
Presented in a decorative gilt frame with a nameplate and a velvet inner slip.

Catalogue Note
Although little is known about the sitter, a certain Mme Berthe is the subject of not fewer than six portraits by Anglada painted around 1900 in Paris. Two are in the collection of the Fundació La Caixa, Palma de Mallorca. In the present, double-sided work, she appears in the nude on the verso.
