Overall, the condition of the marble is very good, with minor dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. There is minor dark veining to the marble, consistent with the material, including to the proper left front leg and paw. There are a few smaller dark veins, including to the proper right front paw. There is a small chip to the mane at the height of the proper right eye. There may be a few further chips to the mane. The red marble base is left deliberately roughly hewn. There is some veining to the marble, consistent with the material, including a slightly open vein behind the front paws of the lion. This has led to a small loss to the back of the base at the front, which has been filled.
