Description

  • Emile Philippe Scailliet
  • La Vague
  • signed: E. Scailliet
  • ivory, on a gilt and silvered bronze base

Condition

Overall the condition of the ivory and bronze is good with minor dirt and wear consistent with age. There is natural stable minor splitting to the ivory throughout; there is minor dirt in these splits making them appear dark. There are some small plugs in the hands, probably concealing the natural pulp cavity of the tusk. There is some minor yellowing to the ivory. There is texture (possibly oxidation to the metal under the silvering) and some minor casting flaws to the silvered bronze. There is minor greening to the crevices of the gilt bronze and some minor wear to the gilding. The inscription on the titular plaque is worn. There is oxidation to the underside. Minor nicks and scratches.
