Condition

Overall, the condition of the bronze is very good, with minor dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. There is some dark spotting to the surface in areas. There is an area of scratches to the proper left upper arm. The bronze is cast in sections, and joints are slightly visible to the inside of the proper right upper arm and on the terrasse. There are a few small hole at the front edge of the base.

Catalogue Note

Idrac was trained by Falguière and exhibited at the Paris salon from 1877. The Salammbô was one of his defining models. A gilt-bronze cast sold of £40,000 (aggregate) in these rooms on 12 July 2017, lot 17.
