Condition

Overall in good condition. The desk is fitted with a laminate lined pull out writing surface, three small drawers to the left side and filling compartments to the right sides as well as one frieze drawer. The surfaces of the desk sides and top platform present with minor rubbing, gentle wear, and scattered light surface scratches, , all consistent with age and use. The side table with very minor wear, nicks and scratches to the top edge as slightly visible in the catalogue illustration, and with light surface scratches to the laminated top consistent with use. The aluminum supports with minor areas of oxidation, faint scratches and dullness to finish, all consistent with natural aging process of the material. The interior of the desk frieze drawer with scuffs, scratches and pencil/crayon marks particularly present on the bottom drawer. The tambour top, not fully visible in the catalogue illustration, has alternating metal and wooden slats, making for an interesting decorative addition. An interesting combination of wood, silvery metal and colorful 'marbled' laminate, these two pieces wonderfully demonstrate the variations in materials and designs that Deskey experimented with in the late 1950s and early 1960s.
