Literature

Marianne Aav and Nina Stritzler-Levine, Eds., Finnish Modern Design: Utopian Ideals and Everyday Realities, 1930-1997, exh. cat., Bard Graduate Center for Studies in the Decorative Arts, New Haven, 1998, p. 218 (for a period photo illustrating Kaipiainen and his sculptural wall pieces in the 1950s)

Condition

Overall very good condition. There are scattered losses to the glaze, mostly around the lower left and right corners, none of which are visually obtrusive. The plaque has been examined under black light and does not present with any obvious restoration. There is some surface dirt in the crazing and recessed areas of the design. The metal wall mounting is difficult to remove. There is light dirt and scattered residue from old tape on the reverse. A lively piece with stylized floral and figurative decoration, the piece is characteristic of Kaipiainen's sculptural wall pieces in the 1950s.
