Catalogue Note
The model for Iris was the artist's youngest daughter Gertrude 'Girlie' (1886-1920), aged about sixteen or seventeen. She was a great beauty and the subject of several drawings by her father, including The Red Cap, Wondertime and St Dorothy. In 1913 she married the architect Lionel Francis Crane, a son of the artist and designer Walter Crane.
