Catalogue Note
EXTREMELY RARE ORNITHOLOGICAL ILLUSTRATIONS. Evidently conceived along the lines of Gould’s Birds of Europe, this work is so uncommon that there seems to be no consensus as to how many plates it should have. Nissen calls for 265, while Wood suggests 255, which is clearly not enough. The Natural History Museum Library has a copy with two plates not included here. It would appear that the work was never completed.
