Description

- "Turtle-Back" Lantern
- impressed TIFFANY STUDIOS/NEW YORK
- favrile glass, patinated bronze
Condition
Overall very good condition. When viewed in person, the turtleback glass tiles present with a less blue, more green hue than in the catalogue illustration. The bronze surfaces with some light surface scratches, abrasions, rubbing, and some scattered oxidation consistent with age and handling. The turtleback glass tiles with some light surface scratches; one tile with an internal stress fracture. All four tiles are different and complex, one is more blue than the others. The canopy and one āSā hook appear to be period; the canopy extender, chain, the other āSā hook, upper loop, and glass pane inset into the hinged bottom door appear to be replaced. The socket appears to be period but is likely not original to the piece. A very charming turtleback piece with rich coloration and nice scale.
