OS GEMEOS, meaning the ‘the twins’ in Portuguese, is an artist duo of identical twin brothers – Gustavo and Otavio Pandolfo – born in 1974 in São Paulo, Brazil.
The Pandolfo brothers have been working together since childhood, often drawing on the same sheet of paper or finishing one another’s works. They started working in the streets of São Paulo at the age of 12, when they began producing public and graffiti projects using a variety of materials, such as car paint, latex, and spray nozzles.
Having spent many years producing street art in Brazil, their work has greatly evolved. Influenced by hip-hop culture and ironically thanks to little prior knowledge of graffiti art, OS GEMEOS managed to develop a unique visual vocabulary. Improvisation and a sense of playfulness characterise their work as do lyrical, narrative scenes with Brazilian folk art influences. As the artists say, it is necessary to allow reason to be replaced by the imagination to understand their work – to feel first and to understand later.
The duo is recognised and admired in their home country as well as abroad, having exhibited their works in various galleries and museums in South and North Americas, Europe, and Asia. Additionally, they have also done various large scale public commissioned works.
