Condition
To the naked eye:
Besides the appearance of dirtiness, the painting appears in good condition. It is under a very thick varnish, old and that has turned yellow that needs to be cleaned.
The painting has been correctly relined in the first half of the 20th century. We notice a 4 cm. across tear, restored, in the middle of the feminine figure’s hand. We also notice a small rip in the lower left corner, as well as a 5 cm. long restoration from the Christ’s mouth toward his shoulder.
We notice numerous little stains on the varnish, on the chest and clothes that don’t bother the lecture of the composition.
Under U.V. light:
The painting appears under a very thick, green and uniform varnish. We notice some restorations on the tears areas already mentioned, as well as some restorations on the background in the upper area of the painting.
