  • 20 x 30,5 cm ; 7 7/8 by 12 in

Provenance

Très probablement vente Atelier Barye, Hôtel Drouot, Paris, 7-12 février 1876, lot 16 ou 44

Condition

The canvas has an old relining. There are some small scattered spots of paint flaking, notably one to the lower right of the large tree, in a small line in the lower left quadrant possibly associated with a scratch and to the left of the signature ( visible in the catalogue illustration). Ultraviolet light reveals traces of the residual varnish layers which fluoresce quite opaquely, and no notable signs of retouching. Traces of the Barye wax stamp are visible on the reverse of the stretcher. Presented in an coved and fluted gilt frame.
