Condition
Overall very good condition with two vertical hairline(ca. 2 cm) fissures going down from the top of the Crucifixion and three fine fissures to the background of the Crucifixion.
A few fine hairline fissures to the right wing with the Virgin and Child. Traces of two old hinges are visible on the inner edge of both wings.
Some minor oxydation to the silver mount.

Catalogue Note
Selon la classification de Koechlin, ce diptyque où chaque feuillet est composé d'une seule scène appartient à la catégorie des "plaquettes". L'oiseau que la Vierge tend à l'Enfant, probablement un chardonneret, est un détail qui ne se retrouve que rarement dans les reliefs en ivoire du XIVe siècle. Un diptyque du musée du Louvre présente, dans une composition tout à fait comparable, ce même détail iconographique qui préfigure la Passion du Christ (inv. n° OA 2601). Sur le second feuillet, la Vierge défaillante au pied de la croix est soutenue par une sainte femme. Un diptyque du Metropolitan Museum présente une composition similaire (inv. n° 17-190-288).
