Description
- Vierge à l'Enfant
- estampé de la marque de Malines au dos
- en noyer teinté
- Haut. 35 cm; height 13 3/4 in.
Condition
Good condition overall with some surface dirt, especially in the crevices, consistent with age and handling. Some worming visible all over the surface, especially to the folds of the Virgin's drapery. The proper right forearm of the Child missing and his face partially missing to his proper right. The Virgin's proper right foot and the tip of her proper left foot are missing as well. A small hole visible above her turban with a hairline fissure starting on the top of her head and running down her forehead (about 1 cm). A dent visible above her head in the hair.
Her back is stamped with the Malines mark, and shows the original traces of the saw and an old fixing hole. Underneath, fixing hole is visible where the sculpture was probably attached to a base.
Very few remains of its original paint can be seen, especially red and blue paint under the Child's dress.
