Condition
Some losses to the enamel at several places, in particular to the tripoid stand with some minor wear to the engraving of the bronze consistent with age and handling.
The stem of the candlestick appears to have been reattached, some fixing material is visible underneath. Very rare object with a good provenance from a prestigious private collection.

Catalogue Note
Chacune des faces de la base pyramidale du chandelier tripode est ornée d'une fleur à quatre feuilles cernées d'émail jaune sur fond bleu clair inscrite dans un cercle et entourée de rinceaux. Les pieds en forme de pattes d'animal sont gravés de masques de lion. La tige en cuivre gravée d'écailles est centrée par un nœud sphérique à décor vermiculé émaillé bleu clair. La bobèche conique, ornée d'une frise de perles et feuilles, s'ouvre sur un fond d'émail bleu. Ce type de chandeliers émaillés apparaît à Limoges au cours du XIIe siècle, et coïncide avec l'emploi de ces objets sur l'autel de l'église, le plus souvent en paire. Un exemplaire similaire est conservé au musée de Cluny à Paris (E.Taburet-Delahaye, op.cit., fig. 33a).
