  • With frame 11 3/4 in. by 13 in.
Depicting Judith with the head of Holofernes, worked in satin, outline, couching and other stitches, label beneath paper backing inscribed Panel of Charles II embroidery-Judith with head of Holofernes. Bought Christie's 1915, in a later ebonized and parcel-gilt frame.

Condition

Please note that this needlework has not been examined out of frame. Colors are well retained with some losses to the silk thread, particularly to her sword and the clouds. Linen ground with stains and discoloration, some minor tears to right side. Frame with rubbing and wear to decoration. This needlework underwent conservation in 2002; mounted on new archival materials.
