Provenance
Formerly the property of a member of the Bernadotte family
Christie's Geneva, 16-17 May 1995, lot 358
Sotheby's Geneva, 16-17 November 1998, lot 297
Condition
Excellent condition. There is an area of surface loss to the enamel at the back around the middle keyhole. There is a small loss to the silver ribbon mount above the swag on the left; perhaps 3 to 5mm is lacking; this is visible in the catalogue photo. Some wear to the gilding. The clock ticks when wound, but please note that Sotheby's does not guarantee the mechanism.
This object was described as having been re-enamelled in the 1995 catalogue. We do not believe that it has been. The colour, quality and uniformity of the enamel are consistent with Fabergé production.
