Provenance

Acquired by the grandfather of the present owner, probably in Russia in the 1920s

Condition

Original canvas which appears to be on its original stretcher. There is craquelure throughout. There are frame abrasions with minor associated paint loss and there are indentations and traces of gold leaf left by the frame. A couple of small areas of restoration are visible to the naked eye at the top edge. There is a light layer of surface dirt. Inspection under UV light reveals minor retouching to the edges and a larger area to the centre of the right edge. Held in a wooden frame with gold and silver leaf. Unexamined out of frame.
