Catalogue Note

'Fashion presents, in a readily understandable way, the complex set of lines and forms predominant in a particular time-period – the external attributes of the epoch. It never repeats already-used forms, and persistently and steadily advances towards rationalisation, just as our daily life is gradually becoming more and more rational.' – Varvara Stepanova, 'From the Garment to the Pattern and the Fabric', Vechernyaya Moskva, 28 February 1928
