Condition
Original canvas. There are isolated patches of craquelure scattered throughout. There is a horizontal crack in the paint layer above the central stretcher bar and another diagonal crack running through the sitter's forehead and hair. A small canvas repair patch is visible on the reverse and there is a corresponding area of restoration on the front of the canvas, above the signature. Inspection under UV light reveals scattered areas of restoration to the edges, in the background around the sitter's head and in his hair and jacket. held in an attractive black and gold painted wooden frame. Unexamined out of frame.
