Description

  • wool, pile technique
  • approximately 562 by 218cm; 18ft. 5in., 7ft. 2in.

Condition

Overall Measurements: 210cm across the top, 218cm across the bottom, 218cm horizontally through the middle, 560cm from the left hand side. 562cm from the right hand side, 551cm vertically through the centre. Dark brown pile heavilly oxidised throughout, pile otherwise varies from 3mm to knotbars. Areas of localised wear particularly where brown is most heavily oxidised. Would benefit from a clean and judicious conservation. Four quite poorly repaired splits, probably to adjust tension and foldwear. Two in left hand border horizontally each approx 55cm in length, one in right hand border approx 65cm length, one in centre of upper border approx. 40cm in length. Sidecords with later overcasting. Small repairs in outer guard stripe at lower end, scattered small reweaves throughout. Beautiful drawing and rendition of flowers.
