Description

  • wool, flatweave
  • approximately 278 by 222cm; 9ft. 1in., 7ft. 3in.

Condition

222cm across the top, 216cm across the bottom, 274cm the left hand side, 278cm the right hand side. Extensive oxidisation to the dark browns with associated localised wear. There a few scattered repairs, including a small patch within the madder field of the top medallion and a cobbled amateur repair clearly visible by additional white stitching, right edge of lower medallion. The are some other scattered small repairs to the right of the central axis as visible in the photograph, inclusive of a small square patch within the top medallion, approx. 3cm by 3cm. Both ends with original knotted fringing. The top end with sections missing in both corners. Later overcast sidecords on right side, sidecords lacking on left side and there is a small area one third of the way up with a 'nick', approx 1cm in length in triangular shape and some some small holes. This is a lovely early example of its type, with beautiful field design and charming zigzag border.
