Description

  • wool, pile
  • approximately 379 by 100cm; 12ft. 5in., 3ft. 3in.
with rare white field

Condition

90cm across the top, 90cm through the middle, 100cm across the bottom, 370cm from the left, 379cm from the right. Thick lustrous wool with flexible handle. Generally even 3-4mm pile overall with even oxidisation and commensurate reduction to height within the brown used in border and outer guards. Within the ivory main field the central section has slightly lower pile, there are some original warp knots showing through. Within the lower section there are some vertical tension warps visible as vertical lines to the bottom of main field. Both ends backed with linen strip, ends with soumac overlocking and warp fringing. Top end with additional indigo flatweave and warp fringing. This is a particularly striking piece a rare blind ivory field; the natural abrash is balanced beautifully with the colourful palmette border, which includes small geometric motifs within the upper and lower borders.
