  • approximately 527 by 369cm; 17ft. 3in., 12ft. 1in.
with 'Ardabil' carpet design, including interpretation of the inscriptions from the 1530's original carpet

Condition

356cm across the top, 369cm across the bottom, 527cm from the left, 525cm from the right. Dense pile overall, 3-5mm in depth. with some oxidisation in the dark crimson in the lower half of the field. Localised areas, eg the lower hanging lamp, have oxidised to foundation. Surface mark in upper left hand quadrant visible in image, (orange coloured spill). Original green sidecords with some wear and losses. Original fringing also with losses. The carpet is very dirty and needs a thorough professional clean, ends stabilising and professional advice on the orange stain. With judicious cleaning and restoration this will be a good robust decorating carpet, as pile is very dense.
