Catalogue Note
Skilfully carved with intertwining sinuous chilong, a popular motif on Han decoration, this mythical creature was likely to have been revived under the archaistic fervour of the Song dynasty, and became popular again from the Yuan dynasty onwards. Compare a related seal offered in these rooms, 4th April 2012, lot 3249; another, but with canted edges and one chilong, sold in these rooms, 8th April 2011, lot 3307.
