- 16cm
modelled as a vase with a compressed globular body rising to a tall flaring neck and supported on a wood stand, the lower body inlaid with an elliptical celadon jade panel inscribed in gilt with an imperial poem titled extolling the beauty and fragrance of osmanthus flowers, the cinnabar lacquer body of the vase finely carved through the layers with kui dragons and phoenix writhing against a dense leiwen ground, all below a pendent lappet border below the rim, the interior and reverse mounted with a gilt-bronze liner with a pair of kui dragon handles suspending loose rings
Condition
There is minor bruises and minute chips to the lacquer. There is some rubbing to the gilding. Otherwise good condition.

Wall vases made of carved lacquer are rare and those inset with a jade plaque are even rarer. See a wall vase decorated on the body with a panel inscribed in gilt against a black lacquer ground, sold at Christie’s London, 15th May 2007, lot 112.
