Catalogue Note
Picasso usually portrayed his second wife, Jacqueline, in profile. By 1958 the artist was completely immersed in lithography, working closely with the master printer, Fernand Mourlot, but taking Mourlot’s instruction and knowledge and making it his own artistic statement. His mastery of the different tools used in lithography (ink wash, paper, stone, brush, crayon, tuche, etc.) enabled him to create a large group of lithographs, unsurpassed by any other graphic artist in the 20th century.
