Description

  • Alexander Mikhailovich Rodchenko
  • Untitled (Pro Eto)
  • gelatin silver print
ferrotyped, signed in the negative, titled in Cyrillic, dated, and with numerical notations, possibly by the photographer’s daughter, Varvara Rodchenko, in pencil and with her collection stamp on the reverse, 1923, printed later (Lavrentiev, p. 45, the original photomontage)

Provenance

Originally in the collection of Leonid Volkov-Lannit

Condition

This ferrotyped print is in generally very good to excellent condition. As typical of the ferrotyping process, superficial scuffing, pitting, and a slight unevenness of the generally glossy surface are visible upon close inspection. There is a circular 2-inch deposit of retouching near the left edge. A few tiny brown deposits of indeterminate nature are visible in the lightest areas of the image. In high raking light, two tiny, soft creases are visible. This print has thin margins, which are slightly creased at the corners. Raised areas from the ink annotations on the reverse are partially visible in the upper portion on the image. When examined under ultraviolet light, this print appears to fluoresce.
