Description

  • Alexander Mikhailovich Rodchenko
  • Balconies
  • gelatin silver print
ferrotyped, titled in Cyrillic, dated '1925' and '1927,' and with numerical notations, possibly by the photographer’s daughter, Varvara Rodchenko, in pencil and with her collection stamp on the reverse, 1925, printed later (MoMA, Rodchenko, pl. 226; Levrantiev, p. 114)

Provenance

Originally in the collection of Leonid Volkov-Lannit

Condition

This ferrotyped print is in generally very good to excellent condition. As is typical of the ferrotyping process, superficial scuffing, pitting, and a slight unevenness of the generally glossy surface are visible upon close inspection. There are a few very small soft handling creases that are visible only in raking light. Some surface scratches are also visible upon close inspection, primarily in the upper portion of the print. The corners of the thin margins are bumped and creased, with minor attendant chipping. The reverse is faintly soiled. When examined under ultraviolet light, this print appears to fluoresce.
In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above.
